Samak Bil Bahar is a traditional Qatari seafood stew that is popular in the Arabian Gulf region. This flavorful and aromatic dish is perfect for seafood lovers and is often enjoyed with fragrant rice or Arabic bread.
Ingredients
- 500g mixed seafood (shrimp, fish, squid)
- 2 tomatoes, diced
- 1 onion, chopped
- 3 garlic cloves, minced
- 1 green chili, sliced
- 1 teaspoon ground cumin
- 1 teaspoon ground coriander
- 1 teaspoon turmeric
- 1 teaspoon paprika
- 1/2 teaspoon ground black pepper
- 1/4 teaspoon ground cinnamon
- 2 cups fish or seafood broth
- 2 tablespoons olive oil
- Salt to taste
- Fresh cilantro for garnish
Instructions
- In a large pot, heat the olive oil over medium heat.
- Add the chopped onion, minced garlic, and green chili. Sauté until the onion is soft and translucent.
- Add the diced tomatoes and cook until they start to break down.
- Stir in the ground cumin, coriander, turmeric, paprika, black pepper, and cinnamon. Cook for 2 minutes to toast the spices.
- Add the mixed seafood to the pot and stir to coat with the spices.
- Pour in the fish or seafood broth and season with salt. Bring the stew to a simmer and cook for 15-20 minutes, or until the seafood is cooked through.
- Once the seafood is cooked, taste the stew and adjust the seasoning if needed.
- Serve the Samak Bil Bahar hot, garnished with fresh cilantro.
