Samak Mashwi (emirati-style Grilled Fish)
Samak Mashwi is a traditional Emirati dish of grilled fish, marinated in a blend of aromatic spices and herbs. This recipe is a celebration of Emirati cuisine and is perfect for a flavorful and healthy meal.
Ingredients
- 4 whole fish (such as snapper or grouper), cleaned and scaled
- 1/4 cup olive oil
- 3 cloves garlic, minced
- 1 teaspoon ground cumin
- 1 teaspoon ground coriander
- 1 teaspoon paprika
- 1/2 teaspoon ground turmeric
- Salt and pepper to taste
- 1 lemon, sliced
- Fresh parsley for garnish
Instructions
- In a small bowl, mix together the olive oil, garlic, cumin, coriander, paprika, turmeric, salt, and pepper to create the marinade.
- Make 3 diagonal cuts on each side of the fish and rub the marinade all over the fish, including inside the cavity.
- Place a slice of lemon inside each fish cavity and let them marinate for 15 minutes.
- Preheat the grill to medium-high heat and lightly oil the grate.
- Grill the fish for about 6-7 minutes on each side, or until the flesh is opaque and flakes easily with a fork.
- Transfer the grilled fish to a serving platter, garnish with fresh parsley, and serve hot.
