Samak Tikka (iraqi Fish Kebabs)
Samak Tikka is a traditional Iraqi dish of fish kebabs marinated in a flavorful blend of spices and grilled to perfection. This recipe is a delicious and healthy way to enjoy fish with a unique Iraqi twist.
Ingredients
- 1 lb firm white fish, cut into 1-inch cubes
- 1/4 cup plain yogurt
- 2 tablespoons olive oil
- 2 cloves garlic, minced
- 1 teaspoon ground cumin
- 1 teaspoon paprika
- 1/2 teaspoon ground turmeric
- 1/2 teaspoon ground coriander
- 1/2 teaspoon cayenne pepper
- 1 lemon, juiced
- Salt and pepper to taste
- Skewers for grilling
Instructions
- In a bowl, mix together the yogurt, olive oil, garlic, cumin, paprika, turmeric, coriander, cayenne pepper, lemon juice, salt, and pepper.
- Add the fish cubes to the marinade and toss to coat. Cover and refrigerate for at least 1 hour.
- Preheat the grill to medium-high heat.
- Thread the marinated fish cubes onto skewers.
- Grill the fish kebabs for 6-8 minutes, turning occasionally, until the fish is cooked through and has a nice char.
- Serve the Samak Tikka hot with rice, salad, and a squeeze of fresh lemon juice.
