Samak Tikka (iraqi Fish Kebabs)

Ingredients

  • 1 lb firm white fish, cut into 1-inch cubes
  • 1/4 cup plain yogurt
  • 2 tablespoons olive oil
  • 2 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1 teaspoon ground cumin
  • 1 teaspoon paprika
  • 1/2 teaspoon ground turmeric
  • 1/2 teaspoon ground coriander
  • 1/2 teaspoon cayenne pepper
  • 1 lemon, juiced
  • Salt and pepper to taste
  • Skewers for grilling

Instructions

  1. In a bowl, mix together the yogurt, olive oil, garlic, cumin, paprika, turmeric, coriander, cayenne pepper, lemon juice, salt, and pepper.
  2. Add the fish cubes to the marinade and toss to coat. Cover and refrigerate for at least 1 hour.
  3. Preheat the grill to medium-high heat.
  4. Thread the marinated fish cubes onto skewers.
  5. Grill the fish kebabs for 6-8 minutes, turning occasionally, until the fish is cooked through and has a nice char.
  6. Serve the Samak Tikka hot with rice, salad, and a squeeze of fresh lemon juice.
