Sambousek Bil Laham is a popular Qatari appetizer made with spiced lamb filling and served with tangy tamarind chutney. These savory samosas are perfect for entertaining or as a delicious snack.
Ingredients
- 1 lb ground lamb
- 1 onion, finely chopped
- 2 cloves garlic, minced
- 1 tsp ground cumin
- 1 tsp ground coriander
- 1/2 tsp turmeric
- 1/2 tsp cinnamon
- Salt and pepper to taste
- 12 sheets of phyllo dough
- 1/4 cup melted butter
- Oil for frying
Instructions
- In a skillet, cook the ground lamb, onion, and garlic over medium heat until the lamb is browned and the onion is soft.
- Add the cumin, coriander, turmeric, cinnamon, salt, and pepper. Cook for another 2-3 minutes, then remove from heat and let it cool.
- Preheat the oven to 375°F (190°C).
- Place one sheet of phyllo dough on a clean surface and brush it with melted butter. Repeat with 2 more sheets, stacking them on top of each other.
- Cut the stacked phyllo sheets into 3 equal strips lengthwise.
- Place a spoonful of the lamb mixture at the bottom of each strip, then fold the bottom corner over the filling to form a triangle. Continue folding the strip into a triangle shape until you reach the end of the strip. Repeat with the remaining phyllo sheets and filling.
- Heat oil in a deep skillet over medium heat. Fry the samosas in batches until golden brown, about 3-4 minutes per side. Drain on paper towels.
- Serve the samosas with tamarind chutney.
