Sambusa (flaky Spinach Pastry)
Sambusa is a popular Tajik pastry filled with a delicious mixture of spinach, onions, and spices, wrapped in flaky pastry dough. This savory snack is perfect for any occasion and is sure to be a hit with friends and family.
Ingredients
- 2 cups fresh spinach, chopped
- 1 onion, finely chopped
- 2 tablespoons vegetable oil
- 1 teaspoon ground cumin
- 1 teaspoon paprika
- Salt and pepper to taste
- 1 package of pre-made pastry dough
Instructions
- In a pan, heat the vegetable oil over medium heat. Add the chopped onion and cook until softened.
- Add the chopped spinach to the pan and cook until wilted.
- Stir in the ground cumin, paprika, salt, and pepper. Cook for an additional 2-3 minutes, then remove from heat and let the mixture cool.
- Preheat the oven to 375°F (190°C).
- Roll out the pre-made pastry dough and cut it into 4-inch squares.
- Place a spoonful of the spinach mixture in the center of each square.
- Fold the pastry dough over the filling to form a triangle, then press the edges to seal.
- Place the sambusas on a baking sheet and bake for 15-20 minutes, or until golden brown.
- Remove from the oven and let cool slightly before serving.
