Samlor Trey (cambodian Fish Soup)
Samlor Trey is a traditional Cambodian fish soup that is packed with flavor and is perfect for a comforting meal. This recipe combines the freshness of fish with a variety of herbs and spices to create a delicious and aromatic soup.
Ingredients
- 1 lb white fish fillets, cut into chunks
- 4 cups fish or vegetable stock
- 1 lemongrass stalk, bruised and chopped
- 2 cloves garlic, minced
- 1 onion, sliced
- 1 tomato, cut into wedges
- 1 cup sliced mushrooms
- 2 tbsp fish sauce
- 1 tbsp sugar
- 1 tsp tamarind paste
- 1 red chili, sliced
- 1 cup fresh basil leaves
- 1 cup bean sprouts
- Salt and pepper to taste
Instructions
- In a large pot, bring the stock to a boil.
- Add lemongrass, garlic, onion, tomato, and mushrooms. Simmer for 10 minutes.
- Stir in fish sauce, sugar, tamarind paste, and chili. Cook for another 5 minutes.
- Add fish fillets and cook until they are opaque and cooked through, about 5-7 minutes.
- Stir in basil leaves and bean sprouts. Season with salt and pepper.
- Serve hot and enjoy!
