Samoborska Kremsnita (samobor Kremsnita)
Samoborska kremsnita, also known as Samobor Kremsnita, is a traditional Croatian custard slice dessert that originated in the town of Samobor. This delicious pastry is made with layers of puff pastry and creamy custard, creating a delightful treat for any occasion.
Ingredients
- 500g puff pastry
- 1L milk
- 200g sugar
- 6 egg yolks
- 80g cornstarch
- 1 tsp vanilla extract
- Powdered sugar for dusting
Instructions
- Preheat the oven to 200°C (400°F).
- Roll out the puff pastry and cut it into two equal rectangles. Place them on a baking sheet lined with parchment paper and prick the pastry with a fork.
- Bake the puff pastry for 15-20 minutes or until golden brown. Let it cool completely.
- In a saucepan, heat the milk until it starts to simmer.
- In a bowl, whisk together the egg yolks, sugar, and cornstarch until smooth.
- Slowly pour the hot milk into the egg mixture, whisking constantly.
- Pour the mixture back into the saucepan and cook over medium heat, stirring constantly, until it thickens. Remove from heat and stir in the vanilla extract.
- Place one sheet of puff pastry on a serving dish and spread the custard over it. Place the second sheet of puff pastry on top.
- Refrigerate the kremsnita for at least 2 hours before serving.
- Dust with powdered sugar before serving.
