Samosa (spiced Vegetable Samosas)
Samosa is a popular Indian snack that features a crispy, flaky pastry filled with a spiced vegetable mixture. It's a delicious and savory treat that can be enjoyed as an appetizer or a tea-time snack.
Ingredients
- 2 cups all-purpose flour
- 1/4 cup vegetable oil
- 1 teaspoon cumin seeds
- 1 onion, finely chopped
- 2 potatoes, boiled and diced
- 1 cup green peas
- 1 teaspoon garam masala
- 1 teaspoon ground coriander
- 1 teaspoon ground turmeric
- 1 teaspoon chili powder
- Salt to taste
- Oil for frying
Instructions
- In a large bowl, combine the flour and 1/4 cup of oil. Mix well and knead into a firm dough. Cover and let it rest for 30 minutes.
- Heat 2 tablespoons of oil in a pan. Add the cumin seeds and sauté until they splutter.
- Add the chopped onion and sauté until golden brown.
- Stir in the diced potatoes and green peas. Cook for 5 minutes.
- Add the garam masala, ground coriander, turmeric, chili powder, and salt. Mix well and cook for another 2-3 minutes. Remove from heat and let the filling cool.
- Divide the dough into small balls and roll each ball into a thin circle. Cut each circle in half to form semi-circles.
- Take one semi-circle, brush the straight edge with water, and form a cone shape. Fill the cone with the vegetable mixture and seal the open edge tightly.
- Heat oil in a deep pan for frying. Fry the samosas in batches until golden brown and crispy.
- Remove and drain on paper towels. Serve hot with chutney or sauce of your choice.
