Samsa (Meat-filled Pastry)
Samsa is a popular meat-filled pastry in Kazakh cuisine, typically enjoyed as a snack or appetizer. The flaky pastry is filled with a savory mixture of seasoned meat and onions, creating a delicious handheld treat.
Ingredients
- 500g ground beef
- 2 onions, finely chopped
- 1 teaspoon salt
- 1 teaspoon ground black pepper
- 1 teaspoon ground cumin
- 1 teaspoon paprika
- 1/4 cup vegetable oil
- 500g puff pastry sheets
Instructions
- In a bowl, mix the ground beef, chopped onions, salt, black pepper, cumin, and paprika until well combined.
- Preheat the oven to 375°F (190°C).
- Roll out the puff pastry sheets and cut them into squares of desired size.
- Place a spoonful of the meat mixture onto each pastry square, then fold the pastry over the filling to form a triangle. Press the edges to seal.
- Brush the tops of the pastries with vegetable oil and place them on a baking sheet.
- Bake in the preheated oven for 20-25 minutes, or until the pastry is golden brown and the filling is cooked through.
- Remove from the oven and let the samsa cool slightly before serving.
