Samsa (uyghur Meat Pie)
Samsa is a popular Uyghur meat pie that is commonly enjoyed in Xinjiang, China. It is a delicious savory pastry filled with seasoned meat and onions, wrapped in a flaky pastry crust.
Ingredients
- 2 lbs ground lamb or beef
- 2 large onions, finely chopped
- 2 teaspoons ground cumin
- 1 teaspoon salt
- 1/2 teaspoon black pepper
- 1/4 cup vegetable oil
- 1 package of puff pastry sheets
Instructions
- In a large bowl, mix together the ground meat, chopped onions, ground cumin, salt, and black pepper.
- Heat the vegetable oil in a skillet over medium heat. Add the meat mixture and cook until the meat is browned and the onions are soft. Remove from heat and let it cool.
- Preheat the oven to 375°F (190°C).
- Roll out the puff pastry sheets and cut them into 6-inch squares.
- Place a spoonful of the meat mixture onto each pastry square. Fold the pastry over the filling to form a triangle and crimp the edges to seal.
- Place the samsas on a baking sheet and bake for 20-25 minutes, or until golden brown.
- Serve the samsas hot and enjoy!
