Sarawakian Nasi Goreng Kampung (Village-style Fried Rice)
Village-style Fried Rice, also known as Nasi Goreng Kampung, is a popular dish in Sarawakian cuisine. This flavorful and aromatic fried rice is made with a combination of fresh ingredients and traditional spices, creating a delicious and satisfying meal.
Ingredients
- 3 cups cooked white rice
- 2 eggs, beaten
- 1 cup mixed vegetables (carrots, peas, corn)
- 1 small onion, finely chopped
- 3 cloves garlic, minced
- 2 red chilies, sliced
- 3 tablespoons soy sauce
- 1 tablespoon oyster sauce
- 1 teaspoon sugar
- 1/2 teaspoon salt
- 1/4 teaspoon black pepper
- 3 tablespoons cooking oil
Instructions
- Heat 1 tablespoon of oil in a wok or large skillet over medium heat. Add the beaten eggs and scramble until cooked. Remove from the wok and set aside.
- Heat the remaining oil in the same wok. Add the chopped onion, minced garlic, and sliced chilies. Stir-fry until fragrant.
- Add the mixed vegetables and stir-fry for 2-3 minutes until they are tender-crisp.
- Push the vegetables to the side of the wok and add the cooked rice. Stir-fry the rice for a few minutes, breaking up any clumps.
- Return the scrambled eggs to the wok and mix with the rice and vegetables.
- In a small bowl, mix together the soy sauce, oyster sauce, sugar, salt, and black pepper. Pour the sauce over the rice and stir-fry until everything is well combined and heated through.
- Transfer the village-style fried rice to a serving dish and garnish with sliced cucumbers and tomatoes, if desired.
