Sarma (albanian Stuffed Grape Leaves With Rice And Vegetables)
Sarma is a traditional dish in Arbëreshë cuisine, consisting of grape leaves stuffed with a flavorful mixture of rice and vegetables. This dish is popular in Albanian cuisine and is perfect for a delicious and satisfying meal.
Ingredients
- 1 jar grape leaves, drained and rinsed
- 1 cup rice
- 1 onion, finely chopped
- 1 carrot, grated
- 1 bell pepper, finely chopped
- 1 tomato, finely chopped
- 1/4 cup olive oil
- 1/4 cup fresh parsley, chopped
- 1/4 cup fresh dill, chopped
- Salt and pepper to taste
Instructions
- Rinse the rice under cold water and drain.
- In a large bowl, combine the rice, onion, carrot, bell pepper, tomato, olive oil, parsley, dill, salt, and pepper. Mix well.
- Place a grape leaf on a flat surface, shiny side down. Place a spoonful of the rice mixture in the center of the leaf.
- Fold the sides of the leaf over the filling, then roll it up tightly.
- Repeat with the remaining grape leaves and filling.
- Place the stuffed grape leaves in a large pot, seam side down, in a single layer.
- Add enough water to cover the grape leaves, then place a plate on top to keep them submerged.
- Cover the pot and cook over medium heat for 1 hour, or until the rice is tender.
- Remove from the heat and let the sarma cool slightly before serving.
