Sarma (scrumptious Sarma)
Sarma is a traditional Albanian dish that consists of delicious cabbage rolls filled with a flavorful mixture of rice and meat. This dish is a staple in Albanian cuisine and is perfect for special occasions or family gatherings.
Ingredients
- 1 large head of cabbage
- 1 lb ground beef
- 1 cup rice
- 1 onion, finely chopped
- 2 cloves garlic, minced
- 1 can tomato sauce
- 1 teaspoon paprika
- Salt and pepper to taste
Instructions
- Boil the whole head of cabbage in a large pot of water for 5 minutes. Remove from water and let it cool. Carefully peel off the leaves.
- In a bowl, mix the ground beef, rice, onion, garlic, paprika, salt, and pepper.
- Place a spoonful of the meat mixture onto each cabbage leaf and roll it up, tucking in the sides.
- Place the cabbage rolls in a large pot, seam side down. Pour the tomato sauce over the rolls and add water to cover.
- Cover the pot and simmer on low heat for 2 hours, or until the rice is fully cooked.
