Sarma (serbian Stuffed Peppers)
Sarma is a traditional Serbian dish made with stuffed peppers, usually served during special occasions and holidays. This recipe combines a flavorful mixture of ground meat, rice, and spices, wrapped in tender bell peppers and slowly cooked to perfection.
Ingredients
- 6 large bell peppers
- 1 lb ground beef
- 1 cup uncooked rice
- 1 onion, finely chopped
- 2 cloves garlic, minced
- 1 can (14 oz) diced tomatoes
- 1 tsp paprika
- 1/2 tsp dried thyme
- Salt and pepper to taste
- 2 cups beef or vegetable broth
Instructions
- Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C).
- Cut the tops off the bell peppers and remove the seeds and membranes.
- In a large bowl, mix together the ground beef, rice, onion, garlic, diced tomatoes, paprika, thyme, salt, and pepper.
- Stuff the bell peppers with the meat and rice mixture.
- Place the stuffed peppers in a deep pot and pour the broth over them.
- Cover the pot and simmer on low heat for 2 hours, or until the peppers are tender and the filling is cooked through.
