Sarma (stuffed Cabbage Rolls)

Ingredients

  • 1 large head of cabbage
  • 1 lb ground beef
  • 1 cup rice
  • 1 onion, finely chopped
  • 2 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1/4 cup tomato sauce
  • 1 teaspoon paprika
  • Salt and pepper to taste
  • 2 cups beef broth

Instructions

  1. Boil the whole head of cabbage in a large pot of water for 5 minutes. Remove from water and let it cool. Carefully peel off the leaves.
  2. In a bowl, mix the ground beef, rice, onion, garlic, tomato sauce, paprika, salt, and pepper.
  3. Place a spoonful of the beef mixture onto each cabbage leaf and roll them up, tucking in the sides.
  4. Place the cabbage rolls in a large pot, seam side down. Pour the beef broth over the rolls.
  5. Cover and simmer on low heat for 1.5 to 2 hours, until the cabbage is tender and the filling is cooked.
