Sarma (stuffed Cabbage Rolls)
Sarma is a traditional dish in Kosovan cuisine, consisting of delicious stuffed cabbage rolls. This recipe is a perfect combination of savory flavors and comforting textures, making it a popular choice for family gatherings and special occasions.
Ingredients
- 1 large head of cabbage
- 1 lb ground beef
- 1 cup rice
- 1 onion, finely chopped
- 2 cloves garlic, minced
- 1/4 cup tomato sauce
- 1 teaspoon paprika
- Salt and pepper to taste
- 2 cups beef broth
Instructions
- Boil the whole head of cabbage in a large pot of water for 5 minutes. Remove from water and let it cool. Carefully peel off the leaves.
- In a bowl, mix the ground beef, rice, onion, garlic, tomato sauce, paprika, salt, and pepper.
- Place a spoonful of the beef mixture onto each cabbage leaf and roll them up, tucking in the sides.
- Place the cabbage rolls in a large pot, seam side down. Pour the beef broth over the rolls.
- Cover and simmer on low heat for 1.5 to 2 hours, until the cabbage is tender and the filling is cooked.
