Satay Gai (thai Chicken Satay)
Satay Gai, also known as Thai Chicken Satay, is a popular street food in Thailand. It features tender, marinated chicken skewers grilled to perfection and served with a flavorful peanut sauce. This dish is perfect for a quick and delicious meal or as an appetizer for a Thai-themed dinner party.
Ingredients
- 1.5 lbs boneless, skinless chicken thighs, cut into strips
- 1/4 cup coconut milk
- 2 tablespoons soy sauce
- 2 tablespoons fish sauce
- 2 tablespoons brown sugar
- 1 tablespoon curry powder
- 1 teaspoon turmeric
- 1 teaspoon garlic, minced
- 1 teaspoon lemongrass, minced
- 1/4 cup peanut butter
- 1/4 cup water
- 1 tablespoon lime juice
- 1 tablespoon soy sauce
- 1 tablespoon brown sugar
- 1/4 teaspoon red pepper flakes
- 8-10 wooden skewers, soaked in water
Instructions
- In a bowl, combine coconut milk, soy sauce, fish sauce, brown sugar, curry powder, turmeric, garlic, and lemongrass. Add the chicken strips and marinate for at least 1 hour.
- Thread the marinated chicken strips onto the soaked skewers.
- Preheat the grill or stovetop grill pan over medium-high heat. Grill the chicken skewers for 3-4 minutes on each side, or until cooked through and slightly charred.
- While the chicken is grilling, make the peanut sauce. In a saucepan, combine peanut butter, water, lime juice, soy sauce, brown sugar, and red pepper flakes. Cook over low heat, stirring constantly, until the sauce is smooth and heated through.
- Serve the grilled chicken satay with the warm peanut sauce for dipping.
