Sate Gai (lao-style Chicken Satay)
Sate Gai, also known as Lao-style Chicken Satay, is a popular street food in Laos. This flavorful dish features marinated chicken skewers grilled to perfection and served with a delicious peanut sauce.
Ingredients
- 1.5 lbs boneless, skinless chicken thighs, cut into thin strips
- 1/4 cup coconut milk
- 2 tablespoons fish sauce
- 2 tablespoons soy sauce
- 2 tablespoons brown sugar
- 1 tablespoon curry powder
- 1 teaspoon turmeric
- 3 cloves garlic, minced
- 1 shallot, finely chopped
- Wooden skewers, soaked in water
Instructions
- In a bowl, combine coconut milk, fish sauce, soy sauce, brown sugar, curry powder, turmeric, garlic, and shallot to make the marinade.
- Add the chicken strips to the marinade, ensuring they are well coated. Cover and refrigerate for at least 2 hours, or overnight for best results.
- Thread the marinated chicken strips onto the soaked wooden skewers.
- Heat a grill or grill pan over medium-high heat. Grill the chicken skewers for 3-4 minutes on each side, or until cooked through and slightly charred.
- Serve the Sate Gai hot with peanut sauce and enjoy!
