Sate Sapi Bakar (grilled Beef Satay)

Ingredients

  • 500g beef, thinly sliced
  • 10 shallots, peeled
  • 5 cloves garlic, peeled
  • 2 lemongrass stalks, white part only, thinly sliced
  • 5 candlenuts
  • 1 inch fresh turmeric, peeled
  • 1 inch galangal, peeled
  • 1 tsp coriander seeds
  • 1 tsp cumin seeds
  • 5 Tbsp sweet soy sauce (kecap manis)
  • 1 Tbsp brown sugar
  • 1/2 tsp salt
  • Bamboo skewers, soaked in water

Instructions

  1. In a food processor, blend shallots, garlic, lemongrass, candlenuts, turmeric, galangal, coriander seeds, and cumin seeds until smooth.
  2. Marinate the beef with the blended mixture, sweet soy sauce, brown sugar, and salt for at least 2 hours or overnight in the refrigerator.
  3. Thread the marinated beef onto the soaked bamboo skewers.
  4. Preheat the grill to medium-high heat and grill the beef satay for 2-3 minutes on each side, or until cooked through and slightly charred.
  5. Serve the Sate Sapi Bakar hot with steamed rice and peanut sauce.
