Savory Cheese Pastry (Peynirli Börek)
Peynirli Börek is a delicious savory pastry from Crimean Tatar cuisine, filled with a mixture of cheese and herbs, and wrapped in thin layers of dough. It's a popular dish for breakfast, brunch, or as a snack.
Ingredients
- 1 package of phyllo dough
- 1 cup feta cheese, crumbled
- 1 cup mozzarella cheese, shredded
- 1/2 cup parsley, chopped
- 1/2 cup green onions, chopped
- 1/4 cup butter, melted
- Salt and pepper to taste
Instructions
- Preheat the oven to 375°F (190°C).
- In a mixing bowl, combine the feta cheese, mozzarella cheese, parsley, and green onions. Season with salt and pepper.
- Unroll the phyllo dough and place a sheet on a clean surface. Brush the sheet with melted butter.
- Place another sheet of phyllo dough on top and brush with butter. Repeat with 4-5 layers of phyllo dough.
- Spread the cheese mixture evenly over the phyllo dough.
- Roll the dough into a log, then coil it into a spiral shape and place it on a baking sheet.
- Brush the top with more melted butter.
- Bake for 25-30 minutes, or until golden brown and crispy.
- Remove from the oven and let it cool for a few minutes before slicing and serving.
