Чучук is a traditional Kyrgyz dish made with ground meat and spices, wrapped in a thin dough and then steamed. It is a savory and satisfying dish that is perfect for a hearty meal.

Savory Chuchuk (Чучук)

Ingredients

  • 500g ground beef or lamb
  • 1 onion, finely chopped
  • 2 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1 tsp cumin
  • 1 tsp paprika
  • 1/2 tsp salt
  • 1/4 tsp black pepper
  • 2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1/2 cup water
  • 2 tbsp vegetable oil

Instructions

  1. In a bowl, mix the ground meat, onion, garlic, cumin, paprika, salt, and black pepper until well combined.
  2. In a separate bowl, combine the flour, water, and vegetable oil to make a smooth dough. Divide the dough into small balls and roll each ball into a thin circle.
  3. Place a spoonful of the meat mixture in the center of each dough circle. Fold the dough over the filling and pinch the edges to seal.
  4. Place the filled dough circles in a steamer and steam for 15-20 minutes until the dough is cooked through.
  5. Serve the chuchuk hot with your favorite dipping sauce or yogurt.
