Savory Herb and Cheese Bread (Çörək)
Çörək is a traditional Azerbaijani savory herb and cheese bread that is perfect for breakfast or as a side dish for soups and stews.
Ingredients
- 2 cups all-purpose flour
- 1 teaspoon baking powder
- 1/2 teaspoon salt
- 1/2 cup chopped mixed herbs (parsley, dill, cilantro)
- 1 cup grated cheese (feta or mozzarella)
- 1/2 cup plain yogurt
- 1/4 cup olive oil
- 1 egg, beaten
Instructions
- Preheat the oven to 375°F (190°C) and grease a baking dish.
- In a large bowl, mix the flour, baking powder, and salt.
- Add the chopped herbs and grated cheese to the flour mixture, and stir to combine.
- In a separate bowl, whisk together the yogurt, olive oil, and beaten egg.
- Pour the wet ingredients into the dry ingredients and mix until a dough forms.
- Transfer the dough to the greased baking dish and spread it out evenly.
- Bake for 35-40 minutes, or until the bread is golden brown and cooked through.
- Allow the bread to cool for a few minutes before slicing and serving.
