Savory Methi Thepla Tacos
Savory Methi Thepla Tacos are a fusion dish that combines the flavors of traditional Gujarati cuisine with the modern twist of Mexican tacos. These tacos are filled with flavorful methi thepla, a popular flatbread made with fenugreek leaves, and topped with a variety of fresh and zesty toppings.
Ingredients
- 2 cups whole wheat flour
- 1 cup fresh fenugreek leaves (methi), chopped
- 1/4 cup yogurt
- 1 teaspoon ginger paste
- 1 teaspoon green chili paste
- 1/2 teaspoon turmeric powder
- 1 teaspoon red chili powder
- Salt to taste
- 2 tablespoons oil
- Water as needed
- 1 cup shredded cabbage
- 1 cup diced tomatoes
- 1/2 cup chopped onions
- 1/2 cup chopped cilantro
- Lime wedges for serving
Instructions
- In a large mixing bowl, combine the whole wheat flour, chopped fenugreek leaves, yogurt, ginger paste, green chili paste, turmeric powder, red chili powder, salt, and oil. Mix well.
- Add water gradually and knead the mixture into a smooth and pliable dough. Divide the dough into small balls and roll them out into thin theplas.
- Heat a tava or skillet over medium heat and cook the theplas on both sides until golden brown spots appear. Set aside.
- Assemble the tacos by placing a thepla on a plate, adding a generous amount of shredded cabbage, diced tomatoes, chopped onions, and cilantro on top. Squeeze some lime juice over the toppings.
- Fold the thepla in half to form a taco and serve immediately.
