Saxon Beef Goulash (Marhapörkölt)

Ingredients

  • 2 lbs beef, cut into cubes
  • 2 onions, chopped
  • 3 garlic cloves, minced
  • 2 tbsp sweet paprika
  • 1 tsp caraway seeds
  • 2 tomatoes, diced
  • 2 red bell peppers, sliced
  • 2 cups beef broth
  • Salt and pepper to taste
  • 2 tbsp vegetable oil

Instructions

  1. Heat the vegetable oil in a large pot over medium heat.
  2. Add the onions and garlic, and sauté until the onions are translucent.
  3. Add the beef cubes and brown on all sides.
  4. Stir in the sweet paprika and caraway seeds, and cook for 1-2 minutes.
  5. Add the diced tomatoes, sliced bell peppers, and beef broth. Season with salt and pepper.
  6. Bring the mixture to a boil, then reduce the heat to low, cover, and simmer for 1.5-2 hours, or until the beef is tender.
  7. Adjust the seasoning if needed, and serve hot.
