Csirkepaprikás, also known as Saxon Chicken Paprikash, is a traditional dish from Transylvanian Saxon cuisine. This hearty and flavorful chicken stew is made with a rich paprika-infused sauce, and it's typically served with homemade egg noodles or dumplings.
Ingredients
- 1 whole chicken, cut into pieces
- 2 onions, finely chopped
- 3 tablespoons sweet paprika
- 1 cup chicken broth
- 1 cup sour cream
- Salt and pepper to taste
- 2 tablespoons vegetable oil
Instructions
- In a large pot, heat the vegetable oil over medium heat. Add the chopped onions and sauté until translucent.
- Add the chicken pieces to the pot and brown them on all sides.
- Sprinkle the sweet paprika over the chicken and onions, and stir to coat everything evenly.
- Pour in the chicken broth and season with salt and pepper. Cover the pot and simmer for 45 minutes, or until the chicken is cooked through.
- Once the chicken is cooked, remove it from the pot and set it aside. Stir the sour cream into the sauce until well combined.
- Return the chicken to the pot and simmer for an additional 5 minutes.
- Adjust the seasoning if needed, and serve the Csirkepaprikás hot with homemade egg noodles or dumplings.
