Saxon Cucumber Salad (Uborkasaláta)
Uborkasaláta, or Saxon Cucumber Salad, is a traditional dish from Transylvanian Saxon cuisine. This refreshing salad is perfect for hot summer days and pairs well with grilled meats or as a side dish for a hearty meal.
Ingredients
- 2 large cucumbers, thinly sliced
- 1 small red onion, thinly sliced
- 1/4 cup white vinegar
- 2 tablespoons sugar
- 1/2 teaspoon salt
- 1/4 teaspoon black pepper
- 2 tablespoons chopped fresh dill
Instructions
- In a large bowl, combine the sliced cucumbers and red onion.
- In a small bowl, whisk together the white vinegar, sugar, salt, and black pepper until the sugar is dissolved.
- Pour the vinegar mixture over the cucumbers and onion. Toss to coat evenly.
- Sprinkle the chopped fresh dill over the salad and toss again.
- Cover and refrigerate for at least 30 minutes before serving to allow the flavors to meld.
