Saxon Plum Dumplings (Szilvás Gombóc)
Szilvás Gombóc, also known as Saxon Plum Dumplings, is a traditional dish from Transylvanian Saxon cuisine. These delicious dumplings are made with a potato-based dough and filled with sweet plums, creating a delightful combination of flavors. Ingredients
- 4 large potatoes, peeled and boiled
- 2 cups all-purpose flour
- 1/4 teaspoon salt
- 12 ripe plums, pitted
- 1/2 cup sugar
- 1 teaspoon ground cinnamon
- Bread crumbs, for coating
- Butter, for serving
Instructions
- Grate the boiled potatoes and place them in a large mixing bowl.
- Add the flour and salt to the bowl, and knead the mixture into a smooth dough.
- Divide the dough into 12 equal portions and flatten each portion into a small disc.
- Place a pitted plum in the center of each disc, sprinkle with sugar and cinnamon, then carefully wrap the dough around the plum to form a ball.
- Bring a large pot of water to a boil, then carefully drop the dumplings into the boiling water.
- Cook the dumplings for about 10-12 minutes, or until they float to the surface.
- Remove the dumplings from the water and roll them in bread crumbs.
- Serve the Szilvás Gombóc with a drizzle of melted butter on top.
