Saxon Plum Dumplings (Szilvás Gombóc)

Ingredients

  • 4 large potatoes, peeled and boiled
  • 2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1/4 teaspoon salt
  • 12 ripe plums, pitted
  • 1/2 cup sugar
  • 1 teaspoon ground cinnamon
  • Bread crumbs, for coating
  • Butter, for serving

Instructions

  1. Grate the boiled potatoes and place them in a large mixing bowl.
  2. Add the flour and salt to the bowl, and knead the mixture into a smooth dough.
  3. Divide the dough into 12 equal portions and flatten each portion into a small disc.
  4. Place a pitted plum in the center of each disc, sprinkle with sugar and cinnamon, then carefully wrap the dough around the plum to form a ball.
  5. Bring a large pot of water to a boil, then carefully drop the dumplings into the boiling water.
  6. Cook the dumplings for about 10-12 minutes, or until they float to the surface.
  7. Remove the dumplings from the water and roll them in bread crumbs.
  8. Serve the Szilvás Gombóc with a drizzle of melted butter on top.
