Szilvalekvár, or Saxon Plum Jam, is a traditional Transylvanian Saxon recipe that has been passed down through generations. This sweet and tangy jam is perfect for spreading on toast, filling pastries, or adding a dollop to your morning yogurt.
Ingredients
- 2 kg ripe plums, pitted and chopped
- 500g granulated sugar
- 1 lemon, juiced
Instructions
- In a large, heavy-bottomed pot, combine the chopped plums, sugar, and lemon juice.
- Place the pot over medium heat and bring the mixture to a boil, stirring frequently.
- Reduce the heat to low and let the jam simmer for about 1 hour, stirring occasionally, until it thickens.
- Once the jam has reached the desired consistency, remove it from the heat and let it cool slightly.
- Pour the hot jam into sterilized jars and seal them tightly. Allow the jam to cool completely before storing.
