Saxon Poppy Seed Cake (Mákos Kalács)
Mákos Kalács is a traditional Transylvanian Saxon poppy seed cake that is enjoyed as a sweet treat or dessert.
Ingredients
- 1 cup all-purpose flour
- 1/2 cup sugar
- 1/2 cup milk
- 1/4 cup butter, melted
- 1/4 cup poppy seeds
- 1 egg
- 1 tsp vanilla extract
- 1 tsp baking powder
- 1/4 tsp salt
Instructions
- Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease and flour a 9-inch round cake pan.
- In a large bowl, mix together the flour, sugar, poppy seeds, baking powder, and salt.
- In a separate bowl, whisk together the milk, melted butter, egg, and vanilla extract.
- Pour the wet ingredients into the dry ingredients and stir until just combined.
- Pour the batter into the prepared cake pan and smooth the top.
- Bake for 35-40 minutes, or until a toothpick inserted into the center comes out clean.
- Let the cake cool in the pan for 10 minutes, then transfer to a wire rack to cool completely.
- Slice and serve the Mákos Kalács as a delightful dessert.
