Saxon Sauerkraut and Sausage Bake (Kolbászos Káposzta)
Kolbászos Káposzta, also known as Saxon Sauerkraut and Sausage Bake, is a traditional dish from Transylvanian Saxon cuisine. This hearty and flavorful casserole is perfect for a cozy family dinner or a gathering with friends.
Ingredients
- 1 lb (450g) smoked sausage, sliced
- 1 large onion, chopped
- 2 cloves garlic, minced
- 1 can (14 oz) sauerkraut, drained and rinsed
- 1 cup (240ml) chicken broth
- 1 tsp caraway seeds
- 1/2 tsp paprika
- Salt and pepper to taste
Instructions
- Preheat the oven to 375°F (190°C).
- In a large skillet, sauté the sausage, onion, and garlic until the onion is soft and the sausage is browned.
- Stir in the sauerkraut, chicken broth, caraway seeds, paprika, salt, and pepper. Simmer for 10 minutes.
- Transfer the mixture to a baking dish and bake for 45 minutes, or until the top is golden brown.
- Serve hot and enjoy!
