Sayadiah (omani Spiced Fish Tagine)
Sayadiah is a traditional Omani spiced fish tagine that is bursting with flavors and aromas. This dish is perfect for seafood lovers and those who enjoy a hint of spice in their meals.
Ingredients
- 4 fish fillets
- 2 onions, thinly sliced
- 3 tomatoes, diced
- 2 garlic cloves, minced
- 1 teaspoon ground cumin
- 1 teaspoon ground coriander
- 1/2 teaspoon turmeric
- 1/4 teaspoon cayenne pepper
- 1/4 cup chopped fresh cilantro
- 2 cups fish or vegetable broth
- 1/4 cup olive oil
- Salt and pepper to taste
Instructions
- Heat the olive oil in a tagine or large skillet over medium heat.
- Add the sliced onions and cook until softened, about 5 minutes.
- Stir in the minced garlic, ground cumin, ground coriander, turmeric, and cayenne pepper. Cook for another 2 minutes.
- Add the diced tomatoes and cook for 5 minutes, stirring occasionally.
- Pour in the fish or vegetable broth and bring to a simmer.
- Season the fish fillets with salt and pepper, then gently place them in the tagine or skillet.
- Cover and cook for 15-20 minutes, or until the fish is cooked through.
- Sprinkle with chopped cilantro before serving.
