Schichtorte
Schichtorte, also known as "layered cake," is a traditional German dessert that consists of multiple layers of cake and cream. This decadent dessert is perfect for special occasions and gatherings.
Ingredients
- 6 eggs
- 150g sugar
- 1 tsp vanilla extract
- 200g all-purpose flour
- 1 tsp baking powder
- 500ml heavy cream
- 100g powdered sugar
- 1 tsp lemon zest
Instructions
- Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease and flour a 9-inch springform pan.
- In a large bowl, beat the eggs and sugar until light and fluffy. Add the vanilla extract.
- In a separate bowl, sift the flour and baking powder together. Gently fold the flour mixture into the egg mixture.
- Pour the batter into the prepared pan and smooth the top. Bake for 25-30 minutes or until a toothpick inserted into the center comes out clean.
- Let the cake cool completely. Once cooled, carefully slice the cake horizontally into three even layers.
- In a chilled bowl, whip the heavy cream, powdered sugar, and lemon zest until stiff peaks form.
- Spread a layer of whipped cream on top of the first cake layer. Repeat with the remaining layers, finishing with a layer of whipped cream on top.
- Refrigerate the schichtorte for at least 2 hours before serving. Garnish with fresh berries or chocolate shavings if desired.
