Schwarzbier Beef Stew (Schwarzbier-Rindereintopf)
Schwarzbier-Rindereintopf, or Schwarzbier Beef Stew, is a hearty and flavorful German stew that is perfect for a cozy night in. This stew is made with tender beef, aromatic vegetables, and a rich Schwarzbier (dark beer) broth, creating a comforting and satisfying dish.
Ingredients
- 2 lbs beef chuck, cut into 1-inch cubes
- 2 tbsp all-purpose flour
- 2 tbsp vegetable oil
- 1 large onion, chopped
- 2 carrots, peeled and sliced
- 2 celery stalks, sliced
- 3 garlic cloves, minced
- 2 cups Schwarzbier (dark beer)
- 2 cups beef broth
- 2 bay leaves
- 1 tsp dried thyme
- Salt and pepper to taste
Instructions
- In a large bowl, toss the beef cubes with the flour until evenly coated.
- In a Dutch oven or large pot, heat the vegetable oil over medium-high heat. Add the beef cubes in batches and brown on all sides. Remove the beef and set aside.
- Reduce the heat to medium and add the chopped onion, carrots, and celery to the pot. Cook for 5 minutes until the vegetables begin to soften.
- Add the minced garlic and cook for an additional 1 minute.
- Pour in the Schwarzbier and beef broth, then return the browned beef to the pot. Add the bay leaves and dried thyme. Season with salt and pepper.
- Bring the stew to a simmer, then reduce the heat to low. Cover and cook for 1.5 to 2 hours, or until the beef is tender.
- Discard the bay leaves and adjust the seasoning if needed. Serve the Schwarzbier-Rindereintopf hot, garnished with fresh parsley if desired.
