This Scottish Haggis Neeps and Tatties Pie recipe is a delicious twist on the traditional Scottish dish. It combines the flavors of haggis, neeps (turnips), and tatties (potatoes) in a hearty and comforting pie.
Ingredients
- 1 lb haggis, crumbled
- 2 large turnips, peeled and diced
- 4 large potatoes, peeled and diced
- 1 onion, finely chopped
- 2 tbsp butter
- 1/2 cup beef or vegetable broth
- Salt and pepper to taste
- 1 egg, beaten (for egg wash)
Instructions
- Preheat the oven to 375°F (190°C).
- In a large pot, boil the diced turnips and potatoes until tender. Drain and mash with 1 tablespoon of butter. Season with salt and pepper to taste.
- In a skillet, sauté the chopped onion in the remaining butter until soft. Add the crumbled haggis and cook until heated through.
- Spread the haggis mixture evenly in the bottom of a pie dish. Top with the mashed neeps and tatties, smoothing the surface with a spoon.
- Brush the top of the pie with the beaten egg to create a golden crust.
- Bake in the preheated oven for 30-35 minutes, or until the top is golden and crispy.
- Let the pie cool for a few minutes before serving.
