Sel Roti
Sel roti is a traditional Nepali homemade, sweet, ring-shaped rice bread/doughnut. It is mostly prepared during Dashain and Tihar, the greatest Hindu festivals in Nepal.
Ingredients
- 3 cups rice flour
- 1 cup sugar
- 1/2 teaspoon cardamom powder
- 1/4 teaspoon baking powder
- 1 ripe banana, mashed
- 1 cup water
- Oil for deep frying
Instructions
- In a large bowl, mix together the rice flour, sugar, cardamom powder, and baking powder.
- Add the mashed banana and water to the dry ingredients and mix until a smooth batter is formed.
- Heat the oil in a deep frying pan over medium heat.
- Pour the batter into a funnel or piping bag and carefully pipe it into the hot oil in a circular motion to form a ring shape.
- Fry the sel roti until golden brown on both sides, then remove and drain on paper towels.
- Serve the sel roti warm with tea or yogurt.
