Ingredients

  • 4 herring fillets, salted and filleted
  • 4 medium potatoes, boiled and diced
  • 2 large beets, boiled and diced
  • 2 large carrots, boiled and diced
  • 1 large onion, thinly sliced
  • 1 cup mayonnaise
  • 1 tbsp Dijon mustard
  • Salt and pepper to taste

Instructions

  1. Layer the bottom of a serving dish with the sliced onions.
  2. Place the herring fillets on top of the onions.
  3. Spread a layer of mayonnaise over the herring.
  4. Add a layer of diced potatoes on top of the herring.
  5. Spread another layer of mayonnaise over the potatoes.
  6. Add a layer of diced beets on top of the potatoes.
  7. Spread another layer of mayonnaise over the beets.
  8. Add a layer of diced carrots on top of the beets.
  9. Spread the Dijon mustard over the carrots.
  10. Finish with a final layer of mayonnaise, covering the entire salad.
  11. Cover and refrigerate for at least 2 hours before serving.
