Ingredients

  • 1 cup semolina
  • 1 cup sugar
  • 1 cup water
  • 1/2 cup unsalted butter
  • 1/2 cup milk
  • 1/4 cup chopped almonds or pistachios for garnish

Instructions

  1. In a large pan, melt the butter over medium heat.
  2. Add the semolina to the pan and cook, stirring constantly, until it turns golden brown and gives off a nutty aroma.
  3. In a separate saucepan, combine the sugar and water. Bring to a boil and simmer for 5 minutes to create a simple syrup.
  4. Slowly pour the hot simple syrup into the semolina mixture, stirring continuously to prevent lumps from forming.
  5. Add the milk and continue to cook the mixture, stirring constantly, until it thickens and pulls away from the sides of the pan.
  6. Remove the pan from the heat and let the halva rest for a few minutes before serving.
  7. Garnish with chopped almonds or pistachios before serving.
