Ingredients

  • 500g beef, cut into cubes
  • 3 shallots, finely chopped
  • 4 cloves garlic, minced
  • 2 tablespoons sweet soy sauce (kecap manis)
  • 1 tablespoon tamarind paste
  • 1 teaspoon ground coriander
  • 1 teaspoon ground nutmeg
  • 3 cups beef broth
  • 2 bay leaves
  • 3 tablespoons vegetable oil
  • Salt and pepper to taste

Instructions

  1. In a large pot, heat the vegetable oil over medium heat. Sauté the shallots and garlic until fragrant.
  2. Add the beef cubes and cook until browned on all sides.
  3. Stir in the sweet soy sauce, tamarind paste, ground coriander, and ground nutmeg. Mix well.
  4. Pour in the beef broth and add the bay leaves. Season with salt and pepper.
  5. Bring the stew to a boil, then reduce the heat to low. Simmer for 1.5 to 2 hours, or until the beef is tender and the sauce has thickened.
  6. Serve the Semur Daging hot with steamed rice.
