Serbian Plum Dumplings (Šljivovica Knedle)
Šljivovica Knedle, also known as Serbian Plum Dumplings, are a traditional Serbian dessert made with fresh plums and a potato-based dough. These delicious dumplings are often served as a sweet treat or dessert, especially during the summer months when plums are in season.
Ingredients
- 10 ripe plums, pitted
- 2 cups mashed potatoes
- 2 cups all-purpose flour
- 1/4 cup semolina
- 1/4 cup sugar
- 1/2 tsp salt
- 1/2 tsp vanilla extract
- 1/4 cup bread crumbs
- 1/4 cup butter
- Cinnamon and sugar for dusting
Instructions
- In a large bowl, combine the mashed potatoes, flour, semolina, sugar, salt, and vanilla extract. Mix until a smooth dough forms.
- Divide the dough into 10 equal portions and flatten each portion into a small disc.
- Place a pitted plum in the center of each disc and wrap the dough around the plum, forming a smooth ball.
- Bring a large pot of water to a boil and carefully drop the dumplings into the boiling water. Cook for about 15-20 minutes, or until the dumplings float to the surface.
- In a separate pan, melt the butter and add the bread crumbs. Cook until the bread crumbs are golden brown.
- Remove the dumplings from the water and roll them in the buttered bread crumbs.
- Sprinkle with cinnamon and sugar before serving.
