Serbian Plum Dumplings (Šljivovica Knedle)

Ingredients

  • 10 ripe plums, pitted
  • 2 cups mashed potatoes
  • 2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1/4 cup semolina
  • 1/4 cup sugar
  • 1/2 tsp salt
  • 1/2 tsp vanilla extract
  • 1/4 cup bread crumbs
  • 1/4 cup butter
  • Cinnamon and sugar for dusting

Instructions

  1. In a large bowl, combine the mashed potatoes, flour, semolina, sugar, salt, and vanilla extract. Mix until a smooth dough forms.
  2. Divide the dough into 10 equal portions and flatten each portion into a small disc.
  3. Place a pitted plum in the center of each disc and wrap the dough around the plum, forming a smooth ball.
  4. Bring a large pot of water to a boil and carefully drop the dumplings into the boiling water. Cook for about 15-20 minutes, or until the dumplings float to the surface.
  5. In a separate pan, melt the butter and add the bread crumbs. Cook until the bread crumbs are golden brown.
  6. Remove the dumplings from the water and roll them in the buttered bread crumbs.
  7. Sprinkle with cinnamon and sugar before serving.
