Sesame Powder Rice (nuvvula Podi Annam)
Sesame Powder Rice, also known as Nuvvula Podi Annam, is a popular dish from Andhra Cuisine. This flavorful rice dish is made with roasted sesame seeds and spices, giving it a nutty and aromatic flavor.
Ingredients
- 2 cups cooked rice
- 1/2 cup sesame seeds
- 2 tbsp chana dal (split chickpeas)
- 2 tbsp urad dal (split black gram)
- 4-5 dried red chilies
- 1/2 tsp cumin seeds
- 1/4 tsp asafoetida (hing)
- 1 tbsp oil
- Salt to taste
Instructions
- In a pan, dry roast the sesame seeds until they turn golden brown. Remove and set aside.
- In the same pan, heat 1 tbsp of oil and roast the chana dal, urad dal, dried red chilies, and cumin seeds until the dals turn golden brown.
- Allow the roasted ingredients to cool, then grind them along with the roasted sesame seeds, asafoetida, and salt to a coarse powder.
- Mix the ground sesame powder with the cooked rice until well combined.
- Sesame Powder Rice (Nuvvula Podi Annam) is ready to be served.
