Sesame Rice (nuvvula Pulihora)

Sesame Rice, also known as Nuvvula Pulihora, is a popular dish from the Andhra Cuisine. This flavorful rice dish is made with sesame seeds and a mix of aromatic spices, making it a delicious and satisfying meal.

Sesame Rice (nuvvula Pulihora)

Ingredients

  • 2 cups cooked rice
  • 3 tbsp sesame seeds
  • 2 tbsp oil
  • 1 tsp mustard seeds
  • 1 tsp cumin seeds
  • 2-3 dried red chilies
  • 1/2 tsp turmeric powder
  • Salt to taste
  • Few curry leaves
  • 2 tbsp roasted peanuts
  • 2 tbsp fresh coriander leaves, chopped

Instructions

  1. In a pan, dry roast the sesame seeds until they turn golden brown. Remove from the pan and allow them to cool.
  2. Grind the roasted sesame seeds into a coarse powder using a mortar and pestle or a spice grinder.
  3. Heat oil in a pan and add mustard seeds, cumin seeds, and dried red chilies. Sauté until the seeds splutter.
  4. Add turmeric powder, salt, and curry leaves. Mix well.
  5. Add the cooked rice and the ground sesame powder. Mix gently to combine all the ingredients.
  6. Garnish with roasted peanuts and chopped coriander leaves.
  7. Serve the delicious Sesame Rice hot or at room temperature.
