Seswaa Spring Rolls
Seswaa Spring Rolls are a delightful fusion of traditional Botswana cuisine and the popular spring roll. This recipe combines the rich flavors of seswaa, a slow-cooked beef dish, with the crispy texture of spring rolls, creating a unique and delicious appetizer or snack.
Ingredients
- 1 lb cooked seswaa (shredded beef)
- 12 spring roll wrappers
- 1 cup shredded cabbage
- 1 carrot, julienned
- 2 tablespoons soy sauce
- 1 teaspoon minced garlic
- 1 teaspoon grated ginger
- 1 tablespoon vegetable oil
- Salt and pepper to taste
- Water for sealing the spring rolls
Instructions
- Heat the vegetable oil in a pan over medium heat. Add the minced garlic and grated ginger, and sauté for 1 minute.
- Add the shredded cabbage and julienned carrot to the pan. Cook for 3-4 minutes until the vegetables are slightly softened.
- Stir in the shredded seswaa and soy sauce. Cook for an additional 2-3 minutes. Season with salt and pepper to taste. Remove from heat and let the filling cool.
- Place a spring roll wrapper on a clean surface. Spoon 2-3 tablespoons of the seswaa filling onto the bottom third of the wrapper. Fold the bottom of the wrapper over the filling, then fold in the sides, and roll tightly to enclose the filling.
- Use a small amount of water to seal the edge of the wrapper. Repeat with the remaining wrappers and filling.
- Heat vegetable oil in a deep pan over medium heat. Fry the spring rolls in batches for 3-4 minutes, or until golden brown and crispy. Drain on paper towels.
- Serve the seswaa spring rolls hot with your favorite dipping sauce.
