Seswaa Sushi
Seswaa Sushi is a unique fusion dish that combines the traditional Botswana dish of seswaa with the popular Japanese cuisine of sushi. This creative recipe brings together the rich flavors of slow-cooked beef with the delicate textures of sushi rice, creating a delightful culinary experience.
Ingredients
- 2 lbs beef brisket
- 2 onions, chopped
- 4 cups water
- 2 cups sushi rice
- 1/2 cup rice vinegar
- 2 tbsp sugar
- 1 tsp salt
- Nori seaweed sheets
- Soy sauce, for serving
- Wasabi, for serving
- Pickled ginger, for serving
Instructions
- In a large pot, combine the beef brisket, chopped onions, and water. Bring to a boil, then reduce heat and simmer for 4 hours, or until the beef is tender.
- While the beef is cooking, prepare the sushi rice according to package instructions. In a small bowl, mix the rice vinegar, sugar, and salt. Once the rice is cooked, gently fold in the vinegar mixture and let it cool.
- Once the beef is tender, remove it from the pot and shred it using two forks.
- To assemble the seswaa sushi, place a sheet of nori on a bamboo sushi mat. Spread a thin layer of sushi rice over the nori, leaving a small border along the edges. Place a line of shredded beef in the center of the rice. Roll the sushi tightly using the bamboo mat.
- Cut the seswaa sushi roll into bite-sized pieces and serve with soy sauce, wasabi, and pickled ginger.
