Ingredients
- 1 whole chicken, about 3 lbs
- 3 slices ginger
- 2 green onions, cut into 2-inch pieces
- 1/4 cup soy sauce
- 2 tbsp Chinese black vinegar
- 1 tbsp sugar
- 1 tsp sesame oil
- 1/2 tsp salt
- 1/4 tsp ground Sichuan peppercorns
- 1/4 cup chicken broth
Instructions
- Place the chicken in a steamer basket with ginger and green onions. Steam for about 30 minutes until the chicken is cooked through.
- Remove the chicken from the steamer and let it cool. Then, cut the chicken into bite-sized pieces.
- In a bowl, mix soy sauce, Chinese black vinegar, sugar, sesame oil, salt, ground Sichuan peppercorns, and chicken broth to make the sauce.
- Pour the sauce over the steamed chicken pieces and toss to coat evenly.
- Refrigerate the Shaanxi Liang Ban Ji for at least 2 hours before serving.
