Shakam Datsi (spicy Yak Curry)
Shakam Datsi, also known as Spicy Yak Curry, is a traditional Tibetan dish that combines tender yak meat with spicy chilies and creamy cheese. This hearty and flavorful curry is a staple in Tibetan cuisine and is perfect for warming up on a cold day.
Ingredients
- 1 lb yak meat, cut into bite-sized pieces
- 2 tbsp vegetable oil
- 1 onion, finely chopped
- 4-6 hot green chilies, sliced
- 1 cup water
- 1 cup shredded yak cheese (or substitute with feta cheese)
- Salt to taste
Instructions
- Heat the vegetable oil in a large pot over medium heat.
- Add the chopped onion and sliced green chilies, and sauté until the onion is soft and translucent.
- Add the yak meat to the pot and cook until browned on all sides.
- Pour in the water and bring to a simmer. Cover and cook for 45-50 minutes, or until the meat is tender.
- Stir in the shredded cheese and cook for an additional 5-10 minutes, until the cheese has melted and the curry has thickened.
- Season with salt to taste and serve hot.
