Shakshuka Sensation
Shakshuka is a popular Israeli dish made with poached eggs in a spicy tomato and pepper sauce. It's a flavorful and comforting meal that is perfect for breakfast, brunch, or dinner.
Ingredients
- 1 tablespoon olive oil
- 1 onion, chopped
- 1 red bell pepper, diced
- 3 cloves garlic, minced
- 1 teaspoon ground cumin
- 1 teaspoon smoked paprika
- 1/4 teaspoon cayenne pepper
- 1 can (14 oz) crushed tomatoes
- Salt and pepper to taste
- 4-6 eggs
- Feta cheese, crumbled (for garnish)
- Fresh parsley, chopped (for garnish)
Instructions
- Heat olive oil in a large skillet over medium heat.
- Add the chopped onion and diced red bell pepper, and cook until softened.
- Stir in the minced garlic, ground cumin, smoked paprika, and cayenne pepper, and cook for another minute.
- Pour in the crushed tomatoes and season with salt and pepper. Simmer for 10-15 minutes until the sauce has slightly thickened.
- Using a spoon, create small wells in the sauce and crack the eggs into the wells.
- Cover the skillet and cook for 5-7 minutes, or until the egg whites are set but the yolks are still runny.
- Sprinkle with crumbled feta cheese and chopped parsley before serving.
