Shandong Style Braised Beef Brisket

Ingredients

  • 2 lbs beef brisket, cut into large chunks
  • 3 tbsp soy sauce
  • 2 tbsp dark soy sauce
  • 1 tbsp sugar
  • 3 slices ginger
  • 2 cloves garlic, minced
  • 2 green onions, cut into 2-inch pieces
  • 2 star anise
  • 1 cinnamon stick
  • 1 tbsp Shaoxing wine
  • 4 cups water

Instructions

  1. In a large pot, add the beef brisket, soy sauce, dark soy sauce, sugar, ginger, garlic, green onions, star anise, cinnamon stick, and Shaoxing wine.
  2. Pour in the water and bring to a boil over high heat.
  3. Reduce the heat to low, cover, and simmer for 1.5 to 2 hours, or until the beef is tender.
  4. Skim off any foam that rises to the surface during cooking.
  5. Once the beef is tender, remove the lid and continue to simmer until the sauce is reduced and thickened.
  6. Discard the ginger, garlic, green onions, star anise, and cinnamon stick before serving.
