Shandong Style Braised Pork Belly
Shandong Style Braised Pork Belly is a classic dish from the Shandong Cuisine, known for its rich flavors and tender texture.
Ingredients
- 2 lbs pork belly, skin on
- 1/4 cup soy sauce
- 1/4 cup Shaoxing wine
- 1/4 cup sugar
- 3 slices ginger
- 2 scallions, cut into 2-inch pieces
- 1 star anise
- 1 cinnamon stick
- 1 cup water
Instructions
- Bring a pot of water to a boil and blanch the pork belly for 5 minutes. Remove and set aside.
- In a separate pot, combine soy sauce, Shaoxing wine, and sugar. Cook over medium heat until the sugar dissolves.
- Add the blanched pork belly, ginger, scallions, star anise, and cinnamon stick to the pot.
- Pour in the water and bring to a boil. Then reduce heat, cover, and simmer for 1.5 hours.
- Uncover and continue to simmer until the sauce thickens and coats the pork belly.
- Slice the pork belly and serve with steamed rice.
