Ingredients
- 1 block of firm tofu, cut into cubes
- 2 tablespoons vegetable oil
- 3 cloves garlic, minced
- 1 tablespoon ginger, minced
- 2 green onions, chopped
- 2 tablespoons doubanjiang (spicy bean paste)
- 1 tablespoon soy sauce
- 1 teaspoon sugar
- 1 cup water
- 1 teaspoon cornstarch, dissolved in 2 tablespoons water
- 1 teaspoon Sichuan peppercorns
- 1 red chili, sliced (optional for extra heat)
Instructions
- In a wok or large skillet, heat the vegetable oil over medium heat.
- Add the garlic, ginger, and green onions, and stir-fry for 1-2 minutes until fragrant.
- Add the doubanjiang and stir-fry for another minute.
- Add the tofu cubes, soy sauce, and sugar. Gently stir to combine, being careful not to break the tofu.
- Pour in the water and bring to a simmer. Cook for 10 minutes, allowing the flavors to meld.
- Add the cornstarch mixture and stir gently until the sauce thickens.
- Sprinkle Sichuan peppercorns and sliced red chili (if using) on top, and gently mix.
- Transfer to a serving dish and serve hot with steamed rice.
