Ingredients

  • 2 lbs beef brisket, cut into chunks
  • 3 slices ginger
  • 2 cloves garlic, minced
  • 3 green onions, cut into 2-inch pieces
  • 1 star anise
  • 1 cinnamon stick
  • 3 tbsp soy sauce
  • 2 tbsp dark soy sauce
  • 2 tbsp Shaoxing wine
  • 1 tbsp rock sugar
  • 4 cups water

Instructions

  1. Blanch the beef brisket in boiling water for 5 minutes, then rinse with cold water and set aside.
  2. Heat some oil in a pot and sauté the ginger, garlic, and green onions until fragrant.
  3. Add the beef brisket, star anise, and cinnamon stick to the pot.
  4. Pour in the soy sauce, dark soy sauce, Shaoxing wine, and rock sugar.
  5. Add water to cover the beef brisket, then bring to a boil.
  6. Reduce heat to low, cover, and simmer for 1.5 to 2 hours until the beef is tender.
  7. Remove the beef brisket from the pot and slice it. Serve with the braising sauce and steamed rice.
