Ingredients
- 2 lbs beef brisket, cut into chunks
- 3 slices ginger
- 2 cloves garlic, minced
- 2 green onions, cut into 2-inch pieces
- 1 star anise
- 1 cinnamon stick
- 2 tbsp soy sauce
- 1 tbsp dark soy sauce
- 1 tbsp Shaoxing wine
- 1 tbsp rock sugar
- 4 cups water
Instructions
- In a pot, blanch the beef brisket in boiling water for 5 minutes. Remove and rinse under cold water.
- Heat some oil in the pot, then add ginger, garlic, and green onions. Stir-fry until fragrant.
- Add the blanched beef brisket, star anise, and cinnamon stick. Stir in soy sauce, dark soy sauce, Shaoxing wine, and rock sugar.
- Pour in water and bring to a boil. Reduce heat, cover, and simmer for 2 hours until the beef is tender.
- Serve the Shanxi Style Stewed Beef Brisket hot with steamed rice.
