Ingredients

  • 2 lbs beef brisket, cut into chunks
  • 3 slices ginger
  • 2 cloves garlic, minced

  • 1 star anise
  • 1 cinnamon stick
  • 2 tbsp soy sauce
  • 1 tbsp dark soy sauce
  • 1 tbsp Shaoxing wine
  • 1 tbsp rock sugar
  • 4 cups water

Instructions

  1. In a pot, blanch the beef brisket in boiling water for 5 minutes. Remove and rinse under cold water.
  2. Heat some oil in the pot, then add ginger, garlic, and green onions. Stir-fry until fragrant.
  3. Add the blanched beef brisket, star anise, and cinnamon stick. Stir in soy sauce, dark soy sauce, Shaoxing wine, and rock sugar.
  4. Pour in water and bring to a boil. Reduce heat, cover, and simmer for 2 hours until the beef is tender.
